August 17, 2020 – Kappa Phi Lambda is pleased to announce it is partnering with RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, to bring sexual misconduct and allyship training to its members.
“We deeply appreciate the opportunity to work with NAPA and the other 19 member organizations in partnering with RAINN,” said Catherine Angwin, National President of Kappa Phi Lambda. “This is a pivotal moment for our organizations to collaboratively combat the sexual misconduct issues that affect our community and members. We look forward to partnering with RAINN as one step to our commitment to the safety and well-being of our members.”
RAINN subject-matter experts will develop and deliver a tailored training that addresses topics of sexual misconduct prevention and response, bystander intervention strategies, and how to support survivors after a disclosure. The RAINN training will be offered starting in mid-October on various days of the week and times of the day to ensure all members who are interested in attending, can sign up for a session that works with their availability.
“College-age adults are at higher risk for sexual violence,” said Clara Kim, vice president of consulting services at RAINN. According to a study by the Association of American Universities, 23.1% of female and 5.4% of male undergraduates experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation. “We’re pleased to have this opportunity to collaborate with Kappa Phi Lambda & NAPA to reach their broad network of members with targeted education and resources geared toward this especially vulnerable age group. It’s critical that college students know the steps they can take to help create a safer and more respectful campus and to support their peers who may be affected by this pervasive issue.”
